Congratulations to the REV Ocean team for helping Congratulations to the REV Ocean team for helping produce content for this great Netflix series, now nominated for an Emmy!

In 2021, a team of 28 scientists, engineers, and filmmakers set out on the icebreaker RV Kronprins Haakon to explore one of the most remote places on Earth — the Aurora vent field, 4000 meters deep under Arctic sea ice.

They discovered some of the first black smoker hydrothermal vents ever seen in the Arctic, offering a rare glimpse into a hidden world and providing vital species sampling and baseline data.

This expedition was led by CAGE/UiT and NIVA, and expertly filmed by Freeborne media for Netflix.

Beach Cleaning Success! 🌊☀ We had an amazin Beach Cleaning Success! 🌊☀
We had an amazing day participating in a beach cleaning effort at Oslo fjord organized by No17 Nosytten - nettverket! Together, we collected and removed 300 kg of invasive Pacific oysters, which pose a serious threat to our local ecosystem. 🦪💪

Did you know that Pacific oysters can grow up to 25 centimeters in length and each female can produce between 50 and 200 million eggs during a spawning event? Removing them helps protect the fjord’s natural balance and biodiversity.
The collected oysters will be processed and repurposed into lime paint and mortar, contributing to a circular and sustainable initiative. 🌱♻️

A huge thank you to the organizers and everyone who joined us in protecting our beautiful fjord and preserving its natural balance. Let’s continue to make a positive impact on our environment through collaboration! 🌊💙

In May 2024, the Arctic Deep expedition—led by O In May 2024, the Arctic Deep expedition—led by Ocean Census and UiT the Arctic University of Norway — charted new territory along the Knipovich Ridge with the help of ROV Aurora, operated by the skilled REV Ocean team.

- 20 dives
- 2500m depths
- Hydrothermal vents & methane seeps
- 100+ biological samples (including unknown species!)

From freezing seas to cutting-edge discoveries, this mission is a giant leap for Arctic deep-sea science.
